Timothee Chalamet has long fingernails in the movie A Complete Unknown to portray iconic musician Bob Dylan and he has confirmed those are really his nails.

Set in the influential New York music scene of the early 60s, A Complete Unknown follows 19-year-old Minnesota musician Bob Dylan’s meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts – his songs and mystique becoming a worldwide sensation – culminating in his groundbreaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.

In a recent interview with co-star Elle Fanning, the actor talked about the nails.

“His long fingernails! He did have them,” Elle told Fandango. “He had to grow them out.”

Timothee added, “They would chip at first. That must be some bodily process, like your body just gets used to. By the end they were like claws.”

Director James Mangold even chimed in on the nails.

He told Business Insider, “Yeah, he was growing them. If you look earlier in the movie, there are some scenes where they aren’t as long, but by the end, he had some full-on ‘Nosferatu’ going on.”
