Ange Postecoglou gives latest on Tottenham January transfer plans
Ange Postecoglou speaks about the plans that Tottenham have put in place to reinforce the squad over the January transfer window but admits that one factor could make things tricky for the Lilywhites.
Tottenham in desperate need of reinforcements
One thing that has become clear over the past 18 months is that Ange Postecoglou‘s high-intensity approach leads to more muscle injuries, with players dropping like flies at different points of his tenure.
That necessitates a deeper squad, particularly given how crammed the schedule has become from this season, due to the expanded Europa League (and Champions League) format.
The injuries that Spurs have had to deal with over the past couple of months have severely exposed the weaknesses in the squad, demonstrating the need for reinforcements across the pitch.

The Tottenham head coach has now confirmed that plans have been put in place by the club to bring new faces through the door, admitting that the squad is in need of additions.
However, he confessed that it can be tricky to find the right players in January, explaining that Spurs will not be making signings just for the sake of doing so.
When asked about potential January moves, Postecoglou told Football.London: “I think, yeah, reinforcement. Like I said a while ago, we’ve been planning. A lot of it was going to be around where we were at this time. Fair to say we’re still a little bit short in a couple of areas and we need to reinforce.
“But January’s trickier in terms of what sort of players you can bring in. For us, ideal — for any club, I guess — you want to bring in people who are going to make you stronger.
“I think the fact that, obviously, we’re still in the Carabao Cup semi-final, still got Europe, FA Cup, we’re in all the competitions, it’s not like our schedule’s going to ease up at any stage. So I think it makes sense. We will try to reinforce where and what number we’ll have to wait and see.”
Spurs arguably need at least three signings
Most clubs do not tend to make more than one or two signings in January, and that has historically been true of Tottenham as well.
However, it is fair to say that Spurs fans will not be happy unless at least three new faces arrive through the door in next month’s transfer window.
Another winger and a midfielder are a must, while the injury record of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven also necessitates another centre-back.
Some might feel that a left-back should also be a priority, although the performances of Djed Spence in that role might convince Postecoglou to pass up on that in January.
