Crews battle fire on Sheridan Ave in Albany
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Firefighters battled a fire that spread to two single family homes on the 300 block of Sheridan Avenue. Smoke could be seen billowing into the sky.
The Albany Fire Chief, Joseph Gregory, said they received multiple calls around 4:30 p.m. for a fire at 323 Sheridan Ave. He said crews arrived within minutes and the fire was contained within 30 minutes.
One firefighter was injured with a minor injury that was non life threatening and was brought to a local hospital. The chief also says fighting fires can be especially challenging this time of the year, “Temperature's always a consideration for us. It's very cold out. These below freezing temperatures, the water is icing up, freezing on the scene, we work in conjunction with our DGS group, they're great to come up and throw down some speedy dry for us, and some salt, so but we're used to it we're in the Northeast this is what we do."
No residents were home at the time of the fire. The chief tells NEWS10, "The fire is under investigation. We are looking into what could be the probable cause of this."
Police shut down Sheridan Ave. between Henry Johnson Boulevard and Lexington Avenue.
