Second person, 40s, dies as man, 40s, is arrested in fatal St Stephen’s Day hit-and-run in Dublin
A SECOND person has died following the fatal hit-and-run in Dublin on St Stephen’s Day.
The collision involved a car and pedestrians as a woman in her 30s was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 40s has now also died following serious injuries.
He had suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown but has since passed away.
The driver failed to remain at the scene, Gardai revealed.
Emergency services were called to the scene alongside the Gardai at around 5.45pm today, following reports of pedestrians having been hit by a vehicle.
A man, also in his 40s, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 on the evening of December 26.
A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí continue to investigate the fatal hit-and-run road traffic collision that occurred in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, on Thursday evening, 26th December 2024.
“The collision involved a car and pedestrians. A woman (aged in her 30s) was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“The man (aged in his 40s) who was seriously injured during the incident has since passed away.
“Investigating Gardaí arrested a man (aged in his 40s) in connection with this incident yesterday evening, Thursday 26th December 2024.
“He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Dublin.”
Gardai confirmed that a technical examination has been completed and the road has been reopened.
Cops are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward.
They said: “A technical examination of the scene has been completed by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road has now reopened.
“Gardaí continue to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
“Any road users or pedestrians who were in the vicinity of Blanchardstown Road North, between 5pm and 6pm on Thursday, 26th December 2024, and have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
