When Dr Manmohan Singh hit Mohammad Ali Jinnah on the head in Lahore
New Delhi: Dr Manmohan Singh, who served as the 13th prime minister of India from 2004 to 2014, was not only a seasoned bureaucrat but a highly respected individual worldwide for his modesty and unassuming nature.
Here, we are sharing with you an anecdote that will show his athletic side.
This incident occurred in Lahore, 1945, in an undivided India when Manmohan Singh was just 13 years old. This incident was shared by him during a press conference in Bengaluru.
Dr Singh narrated that he was playing hockey at a junior college ground in Lahore. The ground was just next the bungalow of Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan.
“I hit the ball towards the goal post but it missed the target and hit Mohammad Ali Jinnah on his head as he was standing in the verandah (porch) of the bungalow. Mr Jinnah did not know what had hit him.”
Dr Manmohan Singh passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday night, December 26 at AIIMS in New Delhi due to age related health conditions.
Dr Manmohan Singh was the fourth longest-serving prime minister after Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Narendra Modi and the first prime minister since Nehru to be re-elected after completing a full five-year term.
