Fans know that when Beyoncé performs these days, there is usually a cameo by her 12-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. It was no surprise when the tween showed off her talents next to her mother at the Netflix NFL halftime show on Christmas Day. It was in Beyoncé’s beloved hometown of Houston, and her daughter was not going to miss this epic performance opportunity.

Blue wants to follow in her parents’ footsteps as the daughter of Beyoncé and Jay Z and she’s reportedly taking the job very seriously. “This performance was very important to her. She didn’t want to embarrass herself or her mom,” a source told the Daily Mail. “She loves the possibilities she has in her future to record more music, with and without her parents, and she is looking forward to the next several years to cut out the artist she wants to be.”

The Carter family allegedly saw the holiday halftime show as “an incredible steppingstone into her future dreams.” Blue, who turns 13 on Jan. 7, had a big month with the performance and made her film debut as the voice of Princess Kiara in Mufasa: The Lion King. Of course, we can’t forget her Grammy Award for “Brown Skin Girl” for Best Music Video in 2019 — Blue is out there working hard!

The “nepo-baby” label is inevitable, but Blue’s parents were criticized for allowing her to wear a gown that some critics felt wasn’t “age-appropriate” at the red carpet premiere of Mufasa. It set off a firestorm of headlines for what Blue was wearing, but singer Christina Milian stepped up to defend the young girl on the Sherri show on Dec. 10. “First of all, she looks gorgeous. I think the fact that anybody has anything to say about someone else’s daughter, any minor, I think just mind your business,” Milian explained. “She’s talented, she toured the world with her mom, like there’s nothing you can say. You can’t dim that shine. Let that baby glow!”

Blue deserves the opportunity to grow into her own artist without people chiming in about every move she makes. She sounded grateful about making her film debut with Disney and we love that she’s ready to join the next generation of artists in Hollywood. “If I told my younger self that I was in a movie, I’d never believe myself,’ she gushed in an interview with Disney Studios. “I’m really happy for girls who look like me all around the world are able to watch this movie and hear and see themselves in it.”

Go, Blue! We are rooting for you.
