Islamic Development Bank appoints head of operations, head of insurance arm

By Andrei Skvarsky.

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has vested two long-time employees with top roles, appointing Rami Ahmad as the Saudi Arabia-based multilateral bank’s vice-president for operations and Khalid Khalafalla as chief executive of its ICIEC investment and export credit insurance unit.

Ahmad, who replaced provisional head of operations Anasse Aissami, had held various senior positions in the Jeddah-headquartered institution.

These included roles as IsDB’s special envoy for the United Nations’ sustainable development goals (SDGs) programme and the lender’s sherpa for the Group of 20 (G20) and a forum of multilateral development banks, the lender said in a statement.

Khalafalla’s appointment as chief executive of ICIEC (the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit) confirmed him in a role he had held on an interim basis since May 2024.

He has held multiple senior posts at IsDB and ICIEC, the insurance corporation said in a statement.

Both new appointments took effect in mid-December.
