6 goals, 1 assist: Man Utd want to agree January deal for 21yo Premier League star - report

Manchester United have had a frustrating Premier League campaign and they are presently 14th in the table after 18 games played.

Manager Ruben Amorim has been unable to overturn the club’s poor run of form and he could be backed with funds to invest this winter.

Daily Mail now claim that Ipswich Town are braced for the potential departure of Liam Delap and United are one of those interested in signing him.

However, Manchester City have a buy-back clause in the striker’s contract. There is also a release clause for other suitors to purchase him.

United unlikely to agree deal for Delap

The 21-year-old joined the Tractor Boys from Manchester City for £20 million last summer, and he has fared decently with six goals and one assist from 17 outings.

Delay has directly contributed to the club picking up five points, and he could be crucial to their prospects of staying in the Premier League next season.

However, Ipswich may not be in a strong negotiating position. A reported release clause could be triggered by interested clubs including the Red Devils.

City have a buy-back option for possibly around £40m. Hence, there is a chance that he could leave this winter, but we don’t see United winning the race.

United obviously don’t have sufficient funds due to PSR concerns and may need the permanent transfer of Marcus Rashford to afford the young centre-forward.

Even then, a transfer does not appear likely. City are without a proper back-up to Erling Haaland after parting ways with Julian Alvarez during the last transfer window.

If United were to make a move, City could counteract the situation by triggering the clause.
