GOP lawmaker: Denying Mike Johnson's speakership would 'squander' opportunity from God
Rep. Brian Babin (R-TX) warned his Republican colleagues opposing Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) to be speaker of the House would "squander" an opportunity that "the Lord God" had given them to change the country.
During a Sunday interview with Fox News, host Rich Edson asked Babin about Johnson's chances to keep the speakership with a slim Republican majority.
"I would think he's trying to walk a tightrope with maybe three-seat majority," Babin explained. "I can tell you, I don't know some of these folks, and I'm friends with a lot of them that may you may call naysayers. Quite frankly, I don't know what their plan B is."
"And so he's — we've got an opportunity that the Lord God has given us," he added. "The American people have given us a mandate to fix this country, and we don't want to be spending weeks again choosing another speaker."

With Republicans in control of the White House and Congress, Babin said the party "can't be squandering away days and weeks trying to pick a speaker when we've got an agenda to pass to save this country."
Johnson has regularly leaned on his Christian faith to push forward his agenda as speaker.
