Decomposing body found off Rancho Palos Verdes cliffside
A body was found several hundred yards down a beach cliffside in Rancho Palos Verdes on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 28, authorities said Sunday.
Sheriff’s deputies with the Lomita station responded around 12:56 p.m. to the 31000 block of Palos Verdes Drive South after a hiker saw the person from the cliff and called authorities, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Paramedics arrived and pronounced the adult dead. Officials haven’t identified the person.
Investigators believe the person fell from Dina’s Viewpoint, above where the body was found in a state of severe decomposition, leading officials to think the adult has been dead for an extended time.
The discovery comes a few days after two human legs were found and more than a month after a human skull and other bones were discovered to the north on the coast of Palos Verdes Estates, but authorities say the earlier discoveries aren’t related to the body found Saturday.
Investigators were working to learn if there’s a connection between the found legs and two men who went missing early Tuesday while fishing in a boat that was later found on the shoreline.
The investigation was ongoing, and no other information was available Sunday.
