Sidney Crosby has passed Mario Lemieux and now has the most career assists in Penguins franchise history.

Crosby registered an assist during Sunday’s 3-2 win over the Islanders, giving him his 1,034th career assist.

Crosby now sits first in Penguins history with the most assists and 12th on the NHL’s all-time list, sitting just 15 assists away from cracking into the all-time Top 10 list.

“I want to congratulate Sid on setting the team’s assist record,” said Mario Lemieux. “He’s an amazing player and we’re so fortunate to have him in Pittsburgh. I look forward to even more great things from him.”

The monumental assist was celebrated after the game in the locker room with a ceremonial puck and stick given to Crosby to mark the occasion.

Up next for the Penguins is a New Year’s Eve matchup with the Red Wings in Detroit tomorrow night. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m.
