Trump adviser: New speaker of the House will be 'one-person decision' by Donald Trump
Trump 2024 adviser Corey Lewandowski insisted that Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) would retain the speaker's gavel because it came down to a "one-person decision" by President-elect Donald Trump.
"I think it's very simple. Mike Johnson's gonna be the next speaker of the house. I believe that Donald Trump is going to support him as a next speaker of the House," Lewandowski told Fox News on Monday, dismissing Republican members of Congress who oppose Johnson.
"He's been a great partner for Donald Trump there," he continued. "I believe this comes down to a one-person decision."
Fox News host Todd Piro noted that a failure to immediately elect Johnson as speaker could delay Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20.
"Should we — maybe not fully but partially — prepare ourselves for a President Chuck Grassley?" Piro asked. "Which is how the succession plan goes if Trump ultimately is not certified and sworn in by January 20th?"

But Lewandowski threw cold water on that idea.
"Well, listen, I have enormous respect for the longest-serving U.S. senator in our country, Chuck Grassley, right now the Senate pro-tem," he replied. "But the reality is this Donald Trump is going to be sworn in."
