AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The miniature train in Austin's Zilker Park -- the Zilker Eagle -- will be on a new operating schedule in the new year.

The Zilker Eagle announced the imminent change on social media over the weekend. The mini train's new hours will be Friday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., starting on Jan. 7, according to the post. It will be closed Monday through Thursday.

The train's current hours are daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a brief closure from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The announcement also noted that the train will have Bill Wood Foundation community hours on the first Friday of every month, starting in January. Tickets will be free all day for individual riders on those days.

Tickets are typically $6, and children under two ride for free. Train tickets can be purchased at the depot, which is located at 2131 1/2 William Barton Drive in Zilker Park.

Proceeds from tickets benefit parks across Austin, according to the Austin Parks Foundation.
