The future Blue Devil is thriving in his senior season

Here’s a comparison you probably haven’t heard before: NBA legend Jason Kidd and Duke recruit Nikolas Khamenia.

It’s a bit surprising because while Kidd was a point guard, Khamenia is a 6-9 forward. So why compare them?

This is why: because like Kidd, Khamenia doesn’t need to score to help his team win. In fact, he doesn’t seem to much care as long as his team wins.

So far this season, Khamenia is putting up 19 points, eight rebounds and seven assists per game.

This comment suggests that Khamenia has a great perspective on the game: “I think if you focus on winning, you’re going to do all the right things. A lot of guys who score a lot of points in high school probably don’t win a state championship because they want to score 40 a game but they don’t get the rest of their teammates going.”

Coaches love guys like that - who wouldn’t?

The ability to weave yourself into a team and find what needs to be done and then just do it is a lot less common than most people think. That kind of attitude however tends to pop up on great teams.

Not coincidentally, Harvard-Westlake is currently 15-1 with the only loss coming to Utah’s Timpview in the Salt Lake City Hoopfest Showcase.
