Kevin Costner Breaks Silence on 'Yellowstone' Co-Star Feud

Acclaimed Western series Yellowstone came to its grand conclusion earlier this month without star Kevin Costner, following his departure in the first half of the final season. Even though Costner's presence on the show is long in the past, his former co-stars have acknowledged the effect of his absence on the show's filming.

Costner's former co-star Luke Grimes spoke about the vibe on set after the 69-year-old's departure in a recent interview with Esquire. His plot being gone left somewhat of a hole in the final season's story arc.

"Hopefully everyone can see that it was time," Grimes said. "To be really honest, there was a part of Kevin being gone that meant some of the conflict was gone. Obviously, it didn’t make it super fun to be around. Not pointing any fingers, but it was actually the easiest season we’ve filmed."

Grimes, who played Costner's son on the show, then revealed in a Men's Health interview that he hasn't exactly kept in touch with the Horizon: An American Saga star. "No, I haven’t talked to him since," he said. "It’s not a case of any hard feelings or anything; it’s just, he’s Kevin Costner. He’s a big deal. I do have his phone number; I just don’t feel like it’s my place to reach out. He can reach out to me if he wants to."

Costner, for his part, hasn't paid much attention to the hit series after he left, including the much-hyped series finale that aired Dec. 15.

"I'm not thinking about that," he said of the final episode, per Variety. "I don't think I've given it any thoughts. We'll just let it go." As for if he keeps in touch with Grimes, he stated plainly, "No, we‘re done talking."

Part 2 of the final season of Yellowstone is available for purchase on Prime Video.
