Andy Reid gives update on Pacheco, Hardman injuries ahead of playoffs
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs are set to play their final game of the regular season against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
While head coach Andy Reid has been noncommittal about who will be on the field for the Week 18 matchup, it is highly expected many of the starters will not see the field as they will get much-needed rest before they embark on their quest for a three-peat.
But Reid did give an update on multiple injuries to key players and their status for the postseason.
He gave an imprecise answer on the status of offensive tackle DJ Humphries, who has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury.
"I can't make you any promises. I want to get [Humprhies] out to practice and kind of see where we're at. He is doing good in his rehab part, that's different than being on the field. I'd like to just see how he does there," Reid said.
Humphries was bought in last month to fill the void at left tackle. Thuney has filled in at the position admirably the last few weeks after moving from left guard and there's a good chance he could stay put at the position for the postseason.
Coach Reid also said there's a chance wide receiver Mecole Hardman and defensive back Jaylen Watson could make a return for the playoffs.
"There's a chance with Mecole and potentially Watson—and I mean potentially—that would be stretching it though," Reid said.
Hardman was placed on Injured Reserve with a knee injury earlier this month and Watson has been out since Week 7, when he broke his ankle against San Francisco.
As for Isiah Pacheco, he will be available to play in the playoffs, but will likely sit out this week after suffering a rib injury vs. Pittsburgh on Christmas.
"[Pacheco] will be available playoff wise. He is tender. I'll probably hold him back this week in practice, just a bit, so he can be fresh and ready to go."
With the majority of starters likely sitting out in the regular season finale, they'll have at least 23 days off before the Divisional Round on January 18th or 19th.
They kickoff against the Broncos on the road at 3:25 p.m.
