Earlier this week it was revealed that Monty would be hosting a new show, Monty Don‘s British Gardens, which starts on January 10.

But his fans don’t need to worry, as his new project hasn’t stopped him from committing to more series of Gardeners’ World.

In a new interview with Radio Times, the star said: “I never make plans beyond two years, but I’ve agreed to do another two (from January 2025).

“Every time I think, ‘Am I really going to do this?’ But the truth is that I do enjoy it.

“I’m lucky because it’s in my own garden. If the programme is made well, I’ll continue.”

While fans will be delighted at the news, in the meantime, they can watch Monty on his new programme in a matter of days.

Discussing the show, Monty said: “I’ve been travelling the world visiting gardens since Around the World in 80 Gardens in 2008.

“While Gardeners’ World is essentially practical, sharing the experience of how to garden, the travel programmes are more of a cultural thing: Why are people gardening here, what does it mean to them?

“We suddenly thought, why don’t we look at our own back yard with the same kind of cultural, anthropological eye?”

Earlier this week, Monty shared a post from Wildside Gardens which said: “Hello, what’s going on here then? Monty and Keith chatting all things gardening.

“Finally, we can share the wonderful news that Keith and Wildside will be featured on Monty Don’s British Gardens series which starts in January.

“All episodes will be available on iPlayer from the 10th January.

“It was a pleasure to welcome @themontydon and the team to the garden and we look forward to seeing the series…something to look forward to in the New Year!”

He also shared: “”New BBC series: Monty Don’s British Gardens 10/01/2025 on @bbctwo.

“For the new series @themontydon travels across some of the country’s most stunning landscapes, heading across the north of England to Northern Ireland…”

The rise and rise of Monty Don

SINCE bursting onto our TV screens in Gardeners' World in the early noughties, Monty Don has been a much-loved star.

Before finding fame on TV, and together with his wife Sarah, Monty set up a lucrative jewellery business in the early 80s.

Monty then joined the popular BBC show as presenter in 2003, taking over from the out going Alan Titchmarsh, and has been there ever since.

Every since he burst onto the scene, he has become a familiar face on the box.

Away from Gardeners’ World he is also known for Monty Don’s Italian Gardens, as well as the FrenchAmerican and Japanese versions of the show.

Monty also hosted The Secret History of the British Garden

Gardeners’ World airs on BBC Two and is available on BBC iPlayer. Monty Don’s British Gardens begins on January 10 and will also be available on BBC iPlayer.
