Share Market Highlights 31 December 2024: Sensex, Nifty end 2024 lower; annual gains surpass 8%

Sensex, Nifty updates on 31 December 2024: Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty ended lower in the final trading session of 2024, weighed down by foreign fund outflows and weak global market trends. The Sensex declined 109.12 points (0.14%) to close at 78,139.01 after an intra-day plunge of 687.34 points (0.87%) to 77,560.79. The Nifty remained almost flat, dipping marginally by 0.10 points to settle at 23,644.80. Despite the year-end dip, Sensex and Nifty posted annual gains of 8.16% and 8.80%, respectively, with record highs achieved on September 27. Major losers on Tuesday included Tech Mahindra, Zomato, and TCS, while Kotak Mahindra Bank, ITC, and Tata Motors gained. FIIs sold equities worth ₹1,893.16 crore on Monday. Global markets showed mixed trends, with European markets trading higher while U.S. indices closed lower. Brent crude rose 0.46% to $74.34 per barrel.
