Stock market today: Wall Street indexes drift lower into the close of another record-breaking year
U.S. stocks indexes are drifting lower on Wall Street on the final day of another record-setting year. The S&P 500 was down less than 0.1% in morning trading Tuesday. The benchmark index is coming off back-to-back declines of more than 1%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 3 points, or less than 0.1%, and the Nasdaq composite was down up 0.3%. Despite the mini post-Christmas slump, the S&P 500 is still up about 24% for the year. The Nasdaq is up about 30% and the Dow has gained about 13%. U.S. markets will be closed Wednesday for New Year's Day.
