Canadian PM Trudeau's party has given him just days to decide if he's quitting: report
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's party wants to know within days if he plans to quit.
Politico reported Tuesday that party members want him to reveal his plans as soon as the holidays are over.
Bloomberg reported earlier this month that the administration has been in "maximum chaos" since the 2024 U.S. election after Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland abruptly resigned. She and Trudeau had significant disagreements over how to handle incoming U.S. President Donald Trump.
Polling doesn't favor the long-time leader as he heads toward a trade war with Trump. While he teased tariffs during the campaign, Trump announced he would implement a 25% charge on all goods coming into the U.S. from Canada and Mexico.

Freeland believed that the prime minister must respond strongly to Trump and prepare for a massive battle and possible collapse of the economy if he makes good on the threats. Instead, some critics say Trudeau has been too diplomatic in the face of Trump's belittling attacks. Trump cheered Freeland's departure, saying she wouldn't be missed.
During a virtual meeting of Liberal members of the Parliament, the group made it clear that many want Trudeau to resign.
“We’ve reached a breaking point,” a Liberal in on the meeting told Politico. “There’s a critical mass now that has been reached and that was not in place before.”
While members of his party are trying to shove him toward the door, one senior Liberal source said Trudeau is focused on “leaving the party in the best shape as possible” and having a plan in place.
“His thinking right now is less about his political legacy,” the source told Politico.
Freeland is being seen as the Liberal alternative to Trudeau, which could set Canada up for a battle with the new U.S. president.
