Ulster Police identify man found fatally injured on roadway
ULSTER, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The 66-year-old Caucasian male found on the East Chester Street Bypass Saturday has been identified. Frank Herbert, 66, of Ulster, was found lying prone off the side of the roadway near the Bank of Greene County, Town of Ulster Police said.
According to police, they responded to the 911 call around 7:08 a.m. for a male lying in the roadway. Upon arriving, police and members of the Ulster Hose Fire Company treated Herbert on the scene before transporting him to Health Alliance Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
Herbert was found wearing a tan Carhartt jacket, blue jeans, dark colored sneakers and was carrying a blue backpack. Police said the Detective Division began reviewing surveillance videos from businesses nearby, conducted interviews and developed a pattern of life for Herbert during the interviews.
According to the Ulster Police Department, his death was not a result of a hit-and-run, any act of violence towards him, or the result of a criminal act. His cause of death, however, was not released by police.
"The Ulster Police Department wishes to keep the family of Frank Herbert in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," the department said Tuesday.
The investigation remains ongoing. The department thanked the businesses, civilians, neighbors and first responders who have helped in the investigation so far.
