Two pieces of good news for the Pens today

The Penguins waived Jesse Puljujarvi yesterday and today found out that he will be sticking around the organization a little longer after all 31 other teams in the NHL passed on claiming the Finnish winger.

The other piece of good news for Pittsburgh is that Marcus Pettersson will be back in the lineup tonight after recovering from an injury. Additionally, rookie Owen Pickering practiced this morning, and while he’s not cleared to return from his concussion just yet, it looks like he’s had a couple good days in a row as his participation level gradually increases. Further, Kris Letang has been listed as “day to day” with his injury, and while he won’t play tonight, the team might not be without his services for too much longer either.

On the other end, the enigmatic saga of Jesse Puljujarvi with the Penguins will continue, at least in some form. Pittsburgh will need to make a roster move to activate Pettersson from the IR, and now have the option to send Puljujarvi to the AHL in order to do that. Puljujarvi’s interesting career takes another turn after going unclaimed on waivers, the next step in the story will be to see how he is able to rebound and move on into the future.
