New York to fine fossil fuel companies for damage from climate change

ALBANY, New York: Under a newly signed law by Governor Kathy Hochul, New York State will charge major fossil fuel companies for their contributions to climate change.

The legislation requires companies with significant greenhouse gas emissions to pay into a state fund dedicated to climate resiliency projects and repairs caused by extreme weather events.
