Brave King Charles, 76, undertook staggering number of engagements in 2024 despite battling cancer
THE King put duty above all else last year as he remained the second hardest-working royal despite his health struggles.
Charles had 372 engagements in 2024 — 329 in Britain and 43 overseas.
He was beaten only by sister Princess Anne’s 474.
But senior royals carried out far fewer engagements in a year marred by sickness.
The King, 76, was diagnosed with cancer in February and Anne suffered a blow to the head in June, thought to have been caused by a horse.
The Princess of Wales bravely managed 13 public engagements despite also having cancer treatment.
She had completed 134 in 2023.
Queen Camilla, sixth with 182, also took time off with a form of pneumonia.
Prince William prioritised supporting his family and completed 166 engagements.
Tim O’Donovan, who compiled the figures for The Times, said of the royal workloads: “The King and Princess of Wales both had treatment for cancer, which considerably reduced the number of engagements they were able to carry out.
“It should be remembered too that all engagements, whether visit, investiture or speech, differ as to form and content, and there is also time taken in preparation.
“Except for Christmas Day and Easter Day, the King does not have a day off from the red boxes.”
