‘Awards Magnet’: 2025 SAG Awards nominations predictions

Will Sing Sing rebound at the Screen Actors Guild Awards? Could The Bear receive more nominations than it did last year? Gold Derby editors and experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng make their 2025 SAG Awards nominations predictions on Awards Magnet.

Sing Sing had a tough go with the Golden Globe Awards, earning just one nomination for Colman Domingo‘s lead turn. It ought to have a better showing with SAG-AFTRA, as the group loves an underdog and a narrative — and the drama about a real prison acting program starring formerly incarcerated men who are alumni of said program fit both to a tee. Sing Sing is currently predicted to score bids for Domingo, supporting actor for Clarence Maclin, and ensemble. It has better odds in ensemble than Oscar frontrunner Anora, whose cast sits in fifth place behind, in order, Conclave, Wicked, Emilia Pérez, and Sing Sing. While Anora makes great use of its supporting cast starting in the second act, it is ultimately a story focused on Ani (Mikey Madison). Is it susceptible to a late-breaker like A Complete Unknown? Or a strength-in-numbers ensemble like Saturday Night‘s even though the film itself is weak in the Oscar race?

On the TV front, Shōgun is forecasted to top the drama field with three nominations. The Bear led TV winners last year, converting three of its four bids into wins for its well-received second season. Its third season is, uh, not very well-received, but could it actually gain an additional nomination? The show is likely safe in the comedy ensemble lineup, and Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ayo Edebiri also feel secure to return to the individual actor and actress categories, respectively, especially with three open slots in both of them. And that could also bode well for Emmy champ Liza Colón-Zayas to sneak in.

Plus: Could Steve Martin and Martin Short be shut out again for Only Murders in the Building?

SAG Awards nominations will be announced Jan. 8.
