All-women adventure racing team won race, but couldn't claim prize

Adventure racing is a competitive endurance sport featuring non-stop multi-day trekking using map and compass navigation via mountain bike, kayak and foot. This all-woman team was the first to win a major international race. So why couldn't they claim the prize?
