Temperatures were above average in NYC in 2024

NEW  YORK CITY (PIX11) – New York City saw above-average temperatures for nearly every month of 2024.

The most dramatic jumps came in March and November, when average temperatures were at least 3.5 degrees over last year’s, according to the National Weather Service.

On average, the city saw temperatures over two degrees above normal levels in 2024. Temperatures only dropped below normal in August and September, when the city saw drop-offs of up to one degree.

Precipitation was also below normal this year in New York City, but most months still saw more rain than in 2023, according to the National Weather Service.

October was particularly dry, when the city saw only 0.01 inches of rain, 1% of what the city normally gets in October. In November, a drought warning was declared in New York City after being on drought watch all month. Between September 1 and mid-November, New York City saw 8.23 inches less rain than average, officials said at the time.

Compare that to a wet March, when the city saw 9.06 inches of rain – 211% of normal precipitation levels in the city.
