Gov. Jeff Landry declares state of emergency after terror attack in New Orleans
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Governor Jeff Landry has issued a state of emergency declaration for Louisiana ahead of the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras season after a terrorist attack in New Orleans.
On Wednesday, Jan. 1, a vehicle drove into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street, which left at least 10 people dead and 30 injured, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
This declaration will allow the state to use all of its resources before the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras.
“From day one, my commitment to the people of this state has been that we will not look the other way. We will not allow heinous acts of crime such as the one this morning to dampen the Louisiana spirit and ruin our way of life. This Administration will not tolerate one of the jewel cities of the State to remain with these conditions. This state of emergency is a necessity in order to ensure that every single person, place, and street across the city of New Orleans is the most safe and secure in the world,” said Landry.
This declaration goes into effect immediately and operates through Monday, Jan. 27.
