Jacob was left reeling when he found April Windsor’s purse on the patient in critical condition.
The emotional moment saw Jacob struggle to ignore what he found and make a crucial mistake that broke hospital procedures by calling Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock).
Marlon and Rhona (Zoe Henry) rushed to the hospital to be told the patient they believed to be April (Amelia Flanagan) – who went missing on Christmas Day – was rushed to surgery.
The doctors told Jacob that he broke to rules by contacting them, but he was adamant that they had a right to know.
Marlon and Rhona were relieved she had been found, but keen to find out who stabbed her.
However, when they went to identify her body, they were left stunned to realise the girl was not April.
As they come to terms that April is still missing, Jacob was devastated to learn he made a mistake.
The doctor fumed at his actions and for the emotional turmoil he put April’s parents through.
She explained it is why there are procedures, which he needs to follow.
She added that they could sue the hospital for his mistake and put his career in jeopardy.
Jacob apologised and questioned whether the job was for him.
But later, the doctor urged him not to give up and praised him for caring for patient Henry Miller, who suffered a cardiac arrest.
Jacob got another shock during his shift when Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) collapsed in the hospital.
