Here's how far a middle-class salary goes in Austin
AUSTIN (Austin Business Journal) -- Households pulling in between $60,000 and $180,000 annually constitute the middle class in Austin, and it's not an easy ride for them when stacked up against other major metros.
Outside of East and West coast cities, only Denver rivals Austin's cost of living in a new study by GoBankingRates that looked to see how far such salaries go in the largest U.S. cities.
Austin ranked No. 14 with a median household income of $86,556, with $11,546 left over after accounting for living expenses. Portland, Oregon, had very similar statistics.
