'Going to need Democrats': CNN panelist gives GOP operative a swift reality check

Former Biden White House official Meghan Hays gave Republican operative Matt Gorman a reality check after he boldly predicted that Republicans would be able to score big legislative wins despite having a razor-thin majority in the House of Representatives.

In breaking down the coming fight over whether to give House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) another shot at holding the gavel in Congress, Hays said that Republicans would have to suck it up and compromise with Democrats to get anything done given the recalcitrance of so many of their members.

"They're going to need Democratic help to get Johnson reelected as speaker," she said. "So I think this is a lesson for Musk and Trump: Don't get involved in these fights. There's compromise being done, that's how they're going to get his agenda passed: With compromise."

Gorman, however, said that Republicans would be strategizing on "how to get quick wins on the board that can unify the caucus."

"You're going to need the Democrats," Hays insisted. "It's not quite the mandate that Donald Trump was talking about in November."

"We'll see about that," Gorman countered.

Host Manu Raju then offered that Democrats may "just sit back and watch" as Republican chaos unfolds.
