Teen student shot in Brooklyn runs into nearby school for help: NYPD
FORT GREENE, Brooklyn (PIX11) – A 17-year-old boy was shot in the torso near a Brooklyn middle school on Thursday morning, police say.
The incident happened just before 8:30 a.m. on Park Avenue and N Oxford Street, according to authorities.
Sources tell PIX11 News that the teenager was walking to school when he was shot but he managed to run into Dr. Susan S. McKinney Secondary School of the Arts where school safety agents aided him.
Police say the 17-year-old is expected to survive. A spokesperson for the Department of Education issued a statement regarding the shooting that said the following:
“While this incident took place off campus, this display of gun violence is deeply concerning. We are grateful to our dedicated school staff and NYPD School Safety Agents who provided critical support to this young person after they sought help at the school. Additional supports are being directed to the school, including school social workers, as well as support for the school community via Project Pivot.”
Department of Education spokesperson
