Jack Black Channels Dwayne Johnson With New Year's Workout Video

Jack Black is taking a page from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson with his New Year's resolutions.

On Jan. 1, the 55-year-old Jumanji star posted a workout video to his Instagram account in which he could be seen strenuously pumping iron in a patriotic button-up emblazoned with the American flag and some psychedelic shorts.

“New Year’s grind,” Black captioned the video. At one point, he motioned for his cameraman to “get in closer” before looking down the barrel and telling viewers: “It’s about sweat equity. It’s about putting in the work. It’s about putting in a grind. It’s about keeping up with the Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnsons of the world. You see how many I’m doing? That’s for definition!”

Celebrities of all stripes came out of the woodwork to support Black. Octavia Spencer left a set of heart emojis, while Black’s Borderlands director Eli Roth left two flexing arms. “I’m right behind you, buddy,” Community creator Dan Harmon wrote. “Oh sheeeeet! It’s on,” commented Black’s Tenacious D bandmate Kyle Gass. “Mark Wahlberg has been real quiet since this dropped,” one user jested. “Jacked Black incoming!” another joked.

This is at least the second time Black has stolen a famously jacked celeb’s workout. In 2019, he posted a video recreating Chris Hemsworth’s viral Thor workout and posted a side-by-side comparison of the two, encouraging fans to determine “who did it better.” Hemsworth even reposted the video, joking, “The student has become the master.”
