Baldwin police search for suspects after vehicle shot on Rod Lane
BALDWIN, La. (KLFY) -- Baldwin police are searching for two men after a shooting was reported on Rod Lane this evening.
Police said the shooting was reported just after 5 p.m. in the 300 block of Rod Lane.
Lt. Clarence Clark said investigators found roughly 17 shell casings in the area.
Police are searching for a black Dodge Charger, possibly a 2020 or newer, with dark windows with silver rims. The vehicle was occupied by two men. The men are considered armed and dangerous.
Clark said one of the men exited the vehicle, shot several rounds into another vehicle, before driving off in the Charger down a gravel road.
Clark said that although no injuries were reported, the area where the shooting occurred is a place where children are known to play.
"This is a known area where kids play every day. We roughly had, maybe 15 kids playing the area, ranging from the age 5 to about 10," Clark said.
Clark said incidents of that nature do not typically happen in that area, so "it may be a mistake in identity." Regardless, Clark said the police department is doing what it can to ensure citizens are safe. He said an investigation is underway and the department will be putting out extra patrol in the coming nights and days.
Police Chief Anthony Gibson said violent crime will not be tolerated in Baldwin.
"I promise you that. I promise you that we are going to locate the subjects," Gibson said.
"I won't sleep until I get these subjects in custody," he said.
