Luke Littler pays tribute to Sir Chris Hoy after terminally-ill Olympic legend presents world darts champion with award

LUKE LITTLER paid tribute to terminally-ill Sir Chris Hoy who attended the darts for the first time.

Hoy – Team GB’s six-time Olympic cycling champion – presented the Ballon d’Art trophy to Littler on Friday night in the post-game ceremony.

The teenager scooped this individual honour – alongside the coveted Sid Waddell Trophy – because he threw 76 180s across six games.

That was the highest figure out of everyone in the 96-player field.

Hoy – a guest of bookies Paddy Power – revealed in October he has stage four prostate cancer and doctors have been given “two to four years” left to live.

The Scotsman, 48, wants more men to get themselves checked out and this has formed the basis of the successful BIGGER 180 campaign.

More than £1million was raised by Paddy Power for the Prostate Cancer UK charity as they handed out £1,000 for every 180 thrown as well as a bonus £120,000 for two nine-darters, hit by Christian Kist and Damon Heta.

Littler, 17, said: “Days before, I had the news on and he was talking about the prostate cancer.

“I didn’t know much about him.

“Me and my mum sat down and she told me who he was.

“When my mum and dad came on stage, they pointed out who was Chris. It’s very sad what he’s going through.

“The limelight is on him and it’s good for him to come on stage and have the confidence to do it.”
