Last round of OKC storm cleanup starts Monday
OKLAHOMA CITY, Ok (KFOR) — Monday, January 6, marks the third and final round of storm debris pickup for those impacted by the November tornados. Now, the city is sharing some last-minute reminders about clean-up to ensure the process goes smoothly.
“We needed to give some of these folks a little bit more time to get items out of the curb and so we suspended after our second round in mid-December and then wanted to give everyone a break for the holidays,” said Jennifer McClintock, Public Information Office Oklahoma City Utilities Department.
Jennifer McClintock with the Utilities Department said to make sure water and gas meters are clear so nothing gets damaged during pick up.
“If they have tree damage or limbs, that those all need to be cut into sections ten feet long or shorter,” said McClintock.
Hazardous items also have a special place.
“Those need to be taken to that household hazardous waste facility on Southeast 15th and Portland, approximately. We don't want those in our trash trucks,” said McClintock.
The city said they will start operations with the area closest to Southeast 89th and Sooner Road. After that, they will move to the second area at Southeast 59th and Triple X.
The city said with the first two rounds of pickup, they’ve collected 2,207 tons of debris, but there’s still more to clean up and once the third clean up ends, normal trash operations will start again.
McClintock also said if you don’t get all the debris piled up in time before pick up, you may have to pay the excess bulky fees in the future. For more information on the collection starting Monday, click here.
