Steve Bannon revels on Jan. 6 anniversary: 'Remember how close we were to pulling it off'

MAGA influencer Steve Bannon celebrated the fourth anniversary of the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol by remembering "how close we were" to overturning the 2020 presidential election.

On his Monday War Room show, Bannon reminded the audience that he "went to prison" after refusing to testify before Congress about his plot to overturn the election.

"Of course, it was all about the House and the Senate saying for the state legislature, and they couldn't certify the election," he recalled. "It would go back to the states. It wouldn't be able to be certified."

"They would not be able to certify the Biden electors. It would go into a contingent election to the House as laid out in the Constitution and the Electoral Count Act and it would — President Trump would have won," Bannon continued.

The conservative host complained that "Judas" Vice President Mike Pence refused to go along with the plan.

"That was the low of the MAGA movement," he said. "Everybody abandoned us. Everybody, they all abandoned President Trump."

"Remember that day. Remember the disappointment. Remember the heartbreak," Bannon added. "Remember how close we were to actually pulling it off, that President Trump had legitimately won the 2020 election, and they could not legitimately certify the usurper."
