‘I lost family to Cancer…’: Sam Konstas opens up about powerful reason for supporting SCG Pink Test
New Delhi: Australia’s rising star, Sam Konstas, shared the personal importance of the Pink Test for him. This charity match supports the McGrath Foundation, which helps breast cancer patients and works towards finding a cure for the disease.
Sam Konstas made a notable debut in international cricket during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where Australia triumphed 3-1. However, it was the fifth and final Test in Sydney, the renowned Pink Test, that held profound personal significance for the young Australian cricketer.
After Australia’s 3-1 series victory, Konstas spoke to Triple M radio about the significance of the Pink Test and shared his personal connection to the cause it supports.
“It’s a special event for the McGrath Foundation. Hopefully, we can raise more awareness and funds because my cousin passed away from leukemia and my grandpa from bowel cancer. I hope we can contribute towards finding a cure,” he shared during his conversation with Triple M.
Konstas’s debut was also marked by a heated exchange with Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. Tensions flared when Konstas collided with Kohli during a shoulder barge and later mocked the Indian star’s on-field actions.
However, the 19-year-old debutant played down the incident, explaining that the Indian superstar had bumped into him by accident. “Virat Kohli accidentally bumped into me; that’s cricket, and such things can happen in the heat of the moment,” said Konstas. “I think emotions got the better of both of us. I didn’t realize it at first, as I was adjusting my gloves, then a little shoulder charge happened, but it’s all part of cricket,” he added.
