6.8 duels won/game: Man Utd interested in signing £25m star for left wing-back role - Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United have identified Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu as an alternative to bolster the left wing-back position this winter.

The Red Devils have had concerns at both ends of the pitch. They have lacked a cutting edge in front of goal, scoring only 23 times in 20 top-flight outings.

The left side of the defence has also been problematic for United, with Diogo Dalot struggling for consistency.

Dalot outclassed Trent Alexander-Arnold in the left wing-back role on Sunday, but manager Ruben Amorim may want competition for places.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that United have added Dorgu to their shortlist of targets to reinforce the left wing-back department.

The Dane is on a three-man shortlist alongside Nuno Mendes and Milos Kerkez, who are considered expensive.

United could explore a winter deal for Dorgu

The 20-year-old started his career as a left-back, but he has shown versatility this season.

He has made 50 percent of his appearances as a right winger. The youngster has also featured as a left-back, left-wing-back and right-back for the Serie A outfit.

Dorgu has fared well despite the change of positions, winning an average of 6.8 duels per game. He has made 4.9 recoveries, 1.9 tackles and 1.7 clearances on average this term.

The Denmark international has also chipped in with three goals. Dorgu is reportedly valued at around £25 million, and United may need to agree a fee of that size.

The left-back has four-and-a-half years left on his contract. Lecce are in a strong position to negotiate and may not offer any discount during the transfer window.
