1. New Johnstown police search tied to Kellisue Ackernecht cold case

In the frigid cold Monday, investigators searched a home on West Main and School Streets for new leads in the cold case of Kellisue Ackernecht. The Johnstown mother disappeared after clocking out from her shift at an Amsterdam Rite Aid in September 2008.

2. Gray fox tested positive for rabies in Bennington

A gray fox recently tested positive for rabies in the town of Bennington, town officials reported in a Facebook post on Monday. Authorities urge residents to take the necessary steps to protect themselves and their animals from the disease.

3. Hochul wants to triple New York’s child tax credit

Gov. Kathy Hochul proposed expanding the Empire State Child Tax Credit. Unveiled as a preview of her upcoming 2025 State of the State address, the plan pays as much as $1,000 per child up to age 3, and $500 for kids aged 4 and 16.

4. New law prohibits thruway use for repeat toll evaders

A new law allows the New York Thruway Authority to prohibit drivers from using the Thruway system if they don’t pay their tolls. According to the Thruway Authority, this will be enforced primarily by New York State Police Troop T with the help of technology. 

5. Grafton Lakes State Park to host 40th Winter Festival

Grafton Lakes State Park will be hosting its annual Winter Festival on Jan. 18. The event will feature outdoor activities with family-friendly recreational offerings, food vendors and additional indoor exhibits.
