2 sons of Mexican cartel leader 'El Chapo' are in plea negotiations with US, attorneys say

Attorneys say two sons of notorious Mexican drug kingpin “El Chapo” facing sweeping drug-trafficking charges in the U.S. are in plea negotiations with the federal government. Neither Ovidio Guzmán López nor Joaquin Guzmán López appeared at Tuesday's brief hearing. Word of a possible deal for Ovidio Guzman Lopez was first disclosed in October. It came months after his brother Joaquin Guzmán López was dramatically captured in Texas with Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, a longtime leader of Mexico’s Sinaloa cartel. Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Erskine said in court Tuesday that prosecutors need more time to work out details.
