Tottenham may have to sell forgotten winger for a reduced price

One Tottenham Hotspur player is likely to leave the club in the summer, but the club where he is currently on loan do not want to pay the price they agreed in the option-to-buy deal.

Bryan Gil has been a flop at Spurs

Much was expected of Bryan Gil when he arrived at Tottenham. Joining from Sevilla for a fee of over £20m, in a move which saw Erik Lamela join the Spanish outfit, it looked like Spurs had a talented youngster on their hands.

However, Gil’s move to North London has failed, with the 23-year-old having already been loaned back to Laliga three times, most recently to Girona.

Despite Gil declaring he wanted to contribute goals and assists to Tottenham when he first arrived at the club, he has never scored in a competitive match for Spurs and has recorded just one assist, while his minutes on the pitch have been limited.

Girona want to sign Bryan Gil permanently from Tottenham

It was recently reported that Girona want to activate the clause in Gil’s loan deal to make his move permanent. While it is still the case that the Spanish club, owned by the City Group, want to sign Gil, Spurs may have to lower their asking price to secure his exit.

According to Diaride Girona, Girona do not want to activate the clause to buy Gil for €15m (£12.5m) and would prefer to negotiate with Spurs.

‘Everything indicates’ that Tottenham are willing to agree a deal with Girona at a lower price and there is confidence Gil will seal a permanent move back to his home country in the summer.

Bryan Gil is enjoying his football at Girona

Gil is said to be doing ‘reasonably well’ at Girona and he has made appearances in 16 of their 18 league matches, missing only two matches, which was due to an ankle sprain.

He has also taken to the pitch five times in the Champions League, which his loan club are currently competing in for the first time in their history.

Gil seems to have found a home at Girona and having not kicked a ball for Spurs since he had his penalty saved in a pre-season friendly shootout defeat to Newcastle United, it is likely he will not appear at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium again.
