Why Nikki Glaser Isn't Mad About Golden Globes Pay Disparity

Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser let it slip that she was paid less than former Globes MC Jerrod Carmichael for her celebrated gig. Glaser made the revelation on Monday during an interview with Howard Stern on his SiriusXM show.

Calling the job “a tremendous amount of work,” Glaser admitted that she “got paid pretty [well]” even though she made less than Carmichael did for the gig in 2023. "There was a past host who said how much money he got paid in his monologue, and I got less than that, but that's okay,” Glaser said. She never named Carmichael, but it's no secret to whom she’s referring—Carmichael revealed his payday during his opening monologue on the telecast two years ago.

But Glaser, who didn’t reveal how much she was paid, had no hard feelings about the financial disparity. “I'll get more next year,” she told Stern. When the famously inquisitive host grilled Glaser about whether or not she’d been tapped to host next year’s show, she told him that no one has “asked me formally,” but “I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t” after the positive reviews she received for Sunday’s show.

When she received the offer to host the Globes, Glaser immediately jumped at the opportunity. She expressed some confusion about peers who turned down the job because of the payday. "Who wouldn't do what I did? I don't understand that kind of person. It was hard work I guess, but I had fun doing it,” she said. “I'm a little exhausted, but I'll miss doing it."

"I feel well paid for what I do—I'm all right. And this first year, when you're just trying to prove yourself, I honestly would've done it for free,” she said of the pay disparity. “It's an insane platform to be on. It's not about the money for me."
