Fabrizio Romano provides true position of Olympiakos' interest in Man United misfit - report

An earlier report disclosed that a Greek club had contacted Manchester United about signing right winger Antony this month.

The club have been confirmed to be Olympiakos. Journalist Fabrizio Romano has now provided more information on their pursuit of the Brazilian forward.

Antony has struggled since moving to Old Trafford, failing to make an impression under former manager Erik ten Hag and his successor Ruben Amorim.

He has bagged just 12 goals and five assists in 94 appearances for Man United. He has just one goal involvement in 12 games this season, underlying his struggles at the club.

The 24-year-old is one of the players the Red Devils are desperate to move on this month. They must clean up their wage bill to avoid breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

He earns £200,000 per week to rank as the fifth-highest earner in the club. His departure would help them inject more quality into their squad this month.

Olympiakos are reportedly exploring signing the United misfit on loan for the rest of the season but may face competition from Real Betis.

Romano provided an update on Olympiakos’ interest in Antony on his YouTube channel, stating that the ‘deal is not concrete’ and ‘unlikely to happen this month’.

The transfer expert added that United are ‘unwilling to pay the whole salary of the player’ and that ‘Olympiakos is not considered a priority’ for the winger.

However, he confirmed that the Greek club, along with Spanish and Italian clubs, have reached out to United over signing the Brazilian.

The possibility of the left-footed winger turning his fortunes at Old Trafford around is bleak. He is unsuitable to play under the Amorim set-up and has proven that.

He will likely leave this month, although he may not depart permanently based on his valuation.

His agent, Junior Pedroso, has confirmed that ‘many clubs have approached him’ over the possibility of signing the former Ajax star.
