How to help Los Angeles wildfire victims

NEW YORK (PIX11) – With fires raging across Los Angeles, a number of local and national organizations are collecting donations to support relief efforts.

As of Thursday, five fires are burning across the Los Angeles area, the largest being the devastating Palisades Fire that has burned through over 17,000 acres, according to CalFire. The Eaton Fire, burning in the San Gabriel Valley, has grown to 10,600 acres.

Well over 1,000 structures have been destroyed in the fires, which still have low containment, according to California fire officials.

Here’s a list of organizations accepting donations for fire relief efforts in Los Angeles:

  • LA Fire Department Foundation: Donate to help get immediate supplies on the ground, like hydration packs, tools to fight brush fires and emergency shelter for firefighters.
  • California Community Foundation: The organization’s Wildfire Recovery Fund will help California rebuild in the long term.
  • Best Friends Animal Society: Shop the society’s “wish-list” to help stock pet supplies for animals in their care.
  • GoFundMe: GoFundMe is keeping a running list of all verified fundraisers for families and businesses affected by the fires, including Altadena and Pasadena families who lost their homes.
  • California Fire Foundation: This non-profit supports families of firefighters and victims of wildfires.
  • American Red Cross: The American Red Cross is opening emergency shelters across Los Angeles. Volunteers from the Greater New York region are "standing by and ready to help," a spokesperson told PIX11 News.
