ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Happy Monday! Meteorologist Matt Mackie says winds will pick up as the day progresses which could lead to power outages and the roads will be slick this Monday.
Some residents were left without salt for this past weekend's snowstorm. Also, an Albany Medical Center doctor gave reminders on heart health while shoveling. These stories, and more, are in your five things to know this Monday.
1. Some Albany residents left without salt for Saturday’s snow storm
Snow fell throughout the Capital Region Saturday night causing many Colonie residents to head to local hardware stores to try and prepare. Most of the residents said they were looking for one thing — rock salt.
2. Heart health reminders while shoveling Capital Region snow
Saturday night’s snowfall caused slippery road conditions on Sunday throughout the Capital Region. One local doctor reminded people how to shovel safely, when it comes to taking care of your heart.
3. Girl Scout Cookie booths now open around Capital Region
Cookie booths popped up around the Capital Region on Friday, as the Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York (GSNENY) kick off their booth sale season. Troops will be stationed at public-facing booths until March 30 to sell boxes of Girl Scout cookies.
4. Presidents Day: Is mail delivered, trash collected on Monday?
Presidents Day, a federal holiday observed annually on the third Monday of February, falls on Feb. 17 this year. The day marks President George Washington’s birthday and celebrates all presidents in United States history.
