China and Russia back Iran’s Nuclear position in Beijing talks
In a trilateral meeting held in Beijing on Friday, senior diplomats from China and Russia expressed their support for Iran’s position regarding its nuclear program. They emphasized that negotiations should be conducted based on mutual respect and that all sanctions should be lifted.
In a statement released after the meeting, Moscow and Beijing declared that Iran’s right to peaceful use of nuclear energy must be fully respected. They also called for the removal of sanctions and reinforced the importance of respecting Iran’s nuclear rights, while the United States continues to insist on the resumption of nuclear talks.
This stance comes at a time when the U.S. is still pressing for the renewal of nuclear discussions with Iran, urging Tehran to engage more actively in the process. Despite this, China and Russia’s support for Iran highlights their growing strategic partnership and their opposition to Western pressures.
Experts believe that the backing from China and Russia signifies a shift in the global power balance and an increase in strategic cooperation between the three nations. However, international pressure on Tehran remains intense, and the outcome of the nuclear talks remains uncertain.
Given the deep divisions between Iran and the U.S., it remains unclear whether this meeting can help revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) negotiations. However, the position taken by China and Russia may place Iran in a stronger negotiating position moving forward.
The ongoing geopolitical shifts and the firm support from China and Russia suggest that Iran may find greater leverage in future talks. However, the path to a renewed agreement on Iran’s nuclear program still faces significant challenges, and the international community remains closely watchful of these developments.
