Construction underway at affordable housing complex in Saratoga Springs

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Construction has officially started at a new Saratoga Springs Housing Authority complex, Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Tuesday. The apartment complex will be called Springs West Apartments.

The $43 million project, also developed by Beacon Communities, will construct six new buildings along Allen Drive in the city of Saratoga Springs. The housing complex will reportedly include 98 one-, two- and three-bedroom units for rent.

According to the governor's office, Springs West Apartments will provide workforce housing. All units will be reserved for adult households and families that earn up to 80% of the Area Median Income.

“Saratoga Springs has long been known as a thriving city for residents and tourists alike, but we must make sure finding a place to call home isn’t a long shot for working families,” Governor Hochul said. “The new buildings and 98 new apartments at Springs West are a perfect example of my commitment to expanding the supply of affordable, safe, and modern homes across New York."

The six buildings that were originally located on the 3.1-acre site were demolished beginning in January. The new buildings will include energy-efficient features, like electric heating and cooling, thermal insulation, LED lighting and more. The complex will also have a playground, laundry rooms in each building, a gym and a community center.

Springs West Apartments will reportedly be located near schools, a grocery store, healthcare facilities and retail establishments. The complex will also have easy access to the I-87 Northway as well as nearby bus and train service, the governor said.

"This project has been years in the making," Saratoga Springs Housing Authority Executive Director Paul Feldman said. "Springs West will offer the opportunity for many hard-working families to live in a city where they otherwise would not be able to afford."

Leasing is expected to begin in the spring of 2026. Construction is scheduled to be finished in late 2026.
