Bibin Magazine Showcases Contemporary Work by Afghan Photographers
A collective of Afghan photographers has launched Bibin, a quarterly magazine dedicated to contemporary and fine art photography. The publication aims to provide a platform for innovative visual storytelling, moving beyond traditional photographic genres prevalent in Afghanistan.
Historically, photography in Afghanistan has predominantly focused on news, street scenes, social documentaries, landscapes, and portraits. Contemporary and fine art photography have received comparatively less attention, partly due to prolonged political instability and limited exposure to diverse artistic expressions.
Bibin—derived from the Persian imperative “to see”—seeks to bridge this gap by curating a space for artistic exploration and critical discourse. Each issue features 20 photographs selected through an open call, accompanied by interpretative essays from guest contributors across various disciplines. Published in both Persian and English, the magazine is available in digital and print formats.
This initiative aligns with a broader movement among Afghan photographers to document and interpret the country’s evolving cultural landscape through diverse lenses. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, Bibin contributes to the enrichment of Afghanistan’s artistic community and offers readers nuanced perspectives on contemporary life.
Bibin is accessible via its official Instagram page, where readers can engage with featured works and stay informed about upcoming issues.
