1 Scripted, 2 Unscripted ABC Shows Await Cancellation or Renewal

As networks move quickly to lock in their 2025–26 slates, ABC has yet to make final decisions on three of its more talked-about titles—one scripted drama and two reality staples—leaving fans and insiders wondering what’s next.

On the scripted front, Doctor Odyssey remains in limbo, according to TV Line. The ambitious cruise ship medical drama stars Joshua Jackson and comes from the creative team of Ryan Murphy Productions.

But while the series boasts serious star power and production pedigree, it’s also expensive to make and has struggled in the ratings. With Doctor Odyssey near the bottom of ABC’s scripted shows in the key 18–49 demo, the network is reportedly still deciding whether to throw the series a lifeline or cut it loose. Insiders suggest Ryan Murphy’s lucrative Disney deal could tip the scales in its favor, but nothing’s been confirmed.

Meanwhile, two of ABC’s flagship unscripted series—The Bachelor and The Bachelorette—are also awaiting word on their futures. Though both franchises have long been reliable performers, recent seasons have seen declining live viewership and increased pressure to reinvent the format. While Bachelor in Paradise is locked in for a 10th season this summer and The Golden Bachelor is confirmed to return, the mainline series have yet to be officially renewed.

The delay has fueled speculation that ABC may be considering structural changes to the Bachelor universe, if not pausing the core shows altogether. Still, with streaming numbers, brand value, and audience engagement factored in, it’s far from a done deal.
